ELECTION RESULTS ARE IN AND THANK YOU! for all those that voted, and support me in making it possible for a 6TH Term

Stan Porter
North Salt Lake City

Friends and neighbors, four years ago you gave me another chance to prove that I still had it in me. I thank you for that opportunity, and I hope I have earned your confidence. I’m at the top of my game, and if you honor me with another four years,
I promise you the best is yet to come. Indeed, nothing stands in our way if we all work together.

Goals

Projects I would like to see to completion

  • Adding new amenities to the Bonneville shoreline trail and Tunnel Springs park, such as putting an old fashion style hand pump for drinking water, and having signage explaining the history of the spring.
  • Revisit City Master Plan reviewing those areas that most likely be developed or re-developed
  • Veterans Memorial Park wall
  • A new compilation of the City History for both the website and a book.
  • Pickleball courts
  • Maintain key assets in the city as in the Eaglewood Golf Course

Open Space preservation

We need to continue to be vigilant in maintaining our open space lands

Natural Resources enhancements

Within the city and close proximity we have some great natural resources. We have the Bonneville bench open space and the national forest lands on the east side and on the west side we have the Jordon River, the Legacy Nature preserve and the “Foxboro wetlands and open space”.

Over the past years, we have been able to develop many of these areas for the benefit of the residents of North Salt Lake. These include, trails like the Wild Rose trail complex, “Bonneville Shoreline trail and open space”, the Tunnel Spring Park, and the Foxboro wetlands area bridge and trail.

Along the Jordan River we recently developed a canoe and watercraft access area named Porter's Landing. The majority of the cost to purchase the land and develop this park was through serval grants, designated for such use, from the state, federal government and the Jordan River commission .

I have been serving as a commissioner on the Jordon River Commission for the past several years. I would love to continue in this role to help improve the way we preserve, utilize and protect the natural resources and open space of the Jordan River area. .

City Sponsored Activities

We have continued to make available many activities for the residents of the city. I am a strong supporter of the North Salt Lake Live activities, senior lunch bunch, 3rd of July celebration, including the car show and all the related activities. I appreciate other city council members and all the volunteers that make these happen.

During the past couple of years, I have been directly involved with the “Get into the River Celebration”, now called "Get to the River Celebration". In co-operation with Davis County we have been able to sponsor a canoeing trip on the Jordan River, inviting residents to take a four mile ride down the Jordan River, and take out at the new "Porters Landing". I would like to continue to be involed and a stong supporter of this activity

Accomplishments

"I have delivered what I promised I would"

Parks and Trails have been one of my passions since I have been on the City Council. I have worked hard to ensure the success of upgrades and construction of parks, trails and open space, by taking a leadership position in working with great staff members, and some wonderful resident volunteers on these projects.

With the ever increasing population, that is occuring in most Utah cities, I feel it a vital to promote and maintain as much open space as possible and to restore our natural resources.

I have lived in North Salt Lake since my birth over 63 years ago, except for a couple of years in eastern Pennsylvania and a couple of years in Bountiful, I have called this my home.

I grew up when North Salt Lake commercial district mostly consisted of the Salt Lake City Stock Yards, the Cudahy Packing Plant, refineries and a fertilizer plant. Most of what is residential now on the east side of town, was foothills, gravel pits and orchards, on the west side was a large acreage of pheasant hunting grounds.

With the preasures of continued growth, we must continue to plan and prepare as to maintain a quality of life for all those living in the city.

My wife Mary Kay and I, have raised five children here, three boys and two girls. We now have thirteen grandchildren with two more on the way.

My three sons, and my son-in-law are veterans of the war. I have one son that is still serving our country full time and is currently deployed with the Air National Guard.

My full time job is Vice President of Automated Office Systems, I have been working in the computer industry for over 41 years. My work involves mostly computer programming, software and accounting support. As a principle owner my time is very flexible, which makes it more convenient for me to perform the tasks required of a City Council Member.

Starting in 1994 I developed a computer program for small cities to track Building Permits and Inspections, in addition my company was involved in installation, training and support of computers and computer networks for small cities.
